KEY MESSAGES

- Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected across south central Kansas this afternoon into this evening

- Temperatures around 100 degrees are expected Tuesday and Wednesday

DISCUSSION

Issued at 1223 PM CDT Sat Jun 6 2026

An upper level low currently over Oklahoma will continue to trek northward into the area this evening. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected across south central Kansas this afternoon into this evening, otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies through tonight. Clearing is then expected tomorrow as upper level ridging builds over the Plains. Mid to upper level cloudiness then increases tomorrow night with dry conditions at the surface. Winds will generally be form the south to southeast through this period. As for temperatures, highs this afternoon look to only reach into the 80s due to the abundant cloud cover with lows tonight in the mid 50s west to mid 60s east. Highs tomorrow will reach into the upper 80s with 90s expected across far southwestern Kansas and along the KS/OK border. Lows tomorrow night will generally dip into the 60s.

An upper level trough will dig into the western United States through the remainder of the forecast with ridging to the east. THis will place southwest Kansas under southwest flow aloft. A warming trend is expected early next week with highs in the 90s Monday and around 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. Dry conditions are expected for a majority of this time but a stray thunderstorm or two can not be ruled out during peak heating. Warm conditions continue for the remainder of the forecast with highs in the 90s.
