Flash Flood Risk Today

Created by the NWS Grand Junction WFO

Another round of showers and thunderstorms will occur this afternoon through tonight. Heavy rainfall creates a risk of flash flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and near recent burn scars. Debris flows are possible, especially near or downstream of recent burn scars. These storms can develop quickly and cause flooding in just minutes, so be sure to monitor the forecast and have a way to receive weather alerts. Showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for at least the next few days.

A graphic showing today's excessive rainfall outlook. Most of our region is at least in a marginal risk area, with some areas of northeastern and southeastern Utah in a slight risk area.
