HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

* Until 945 PM EDT.
* At 659 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Additional Details
- At 707 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will allow minor flooding to persist or worsen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Billows, Pongo, Luner, Bunch, Bloss, Bernstadt, Wood Creek Lake, Hazel Patch, Sand Hill, Hare, Bent, Wellhope, Carmichael, Dykes, Pine Hill, East Bernstadt, Burr and Grade.

In northeast Kentucky, Johnson and Martin. In south central Kentucky, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne and Whitley. In southeast Kentucky, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Wolfe.

Impacts
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

There is an Enhanced (Level 3/5) Risk for severe thunderstorms in locations north of the Hal Rogers Parkway/Highway 80 corridors today. Locations further to the south are under a Slight (Level 2/5) Risk. There could be multiple rounds of activity through tonight, but the most likely timing for severe weather is in the afternoon and evening hours. All severe weather hazards are possible, but the main concern is for damaging wind gusts within a line of prefrontal storms this evening.
