In effect from Saturday 06/06 2:57 AM EDT – Saturday 06/06 8:00 PM EDT

Issued by NWS Wakefield VA

Dry, hot, and breezy conditions are expected today. The ongoing drought has led to abnormally dry dead surface fuels across the region. Min RH values of 25 to 30%, wind gusts to around 20 mph, and afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 90s will lead to an increased fire danger from mid morning through early evening today. Conditions Sunday may be similar ahead of an approaching cold front, with an additional Increased Fire Danger statement likely to be issued.

Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source...including machinery... cigarettes...and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.
