HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include... Hamlin, Culloden, West Hamlin, Salt Rock, Griffithsville, and Sweetland.
What to Do
Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Southern Cabell County in central West Virginia... Northwestern Lincoln County in central West Virginia... Northern Wayne County in western West Virginia...

* At 639 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Huntington, Ashland, Ironton, Coal Grove, Chesapeake, Proctorville, Beech Fork State Park, Cannonsburg, Barboursville, Kenova, Catlettsburg, Ceredo, Flatwoods, South Point, Russell, and Westwood.
This includes the following highways... Interstate 64 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 20. Interstate 64 in Kentucky between mile markers 187 and 191.
What to Do
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of streets around Huntington. The highest threat areas for flooding are the railroad viaducts at 1st, 8th, 10th, 16th and 20th streets. In addition, the railroad viaduct at 14th street west may flood. Flooding may also be occurring along 5th avenue between 24th and 25th streets.
Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

A Flash Flood Warning means that dangerous flooding is expected or already happening. Flash flooding can develop in hours or minutes, so take protective action now.
- If you are in a low-lying or flood prone area, move to higher ground immediately.
- Stay off bridges over fast-moving water, and away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
- Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads.
- If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary.
- If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

Enhanced Risk for Severe Thunderstorms Today

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the area this afternoon and into the evening, with some capable of becoming severe. The environment supports a multi-hazard threat. Primary Threats Include: 💨 Damaging Winds: This is the main threat. Swaths of 50–60 mph gusts will be possible in severe storms, with isolated gusts up to 70 mph. 🌧️ Torrential Rain: Heavy downpours will accompany these storms, which may cause highly localized flooding. 🌪️ Tornadoes & Hail: A line-embedded tornado or two and isolated instances of quarter-sized hail are also possible. Timing: Storms may develop as early as noon and continue into the evening.
