Heavy Showers and Storms Tonight into Sunday

Enjoy the break in the weather today, but keep an eye on the sky later this evening as active weather returns to the region. A complex of heavy showers and thunderstorms is expected to arrive across parts of southeast Ohio and northeast Kentucky as early as 7 PM tonight, with a second round of heavy rain moving across southern and western West Virginia overnight into Sunday morning. A few isolated severe storms could bring damaging wind gusts this evening, particularly near the Tri-State area where instability is highest. Very high moisture levels will make heavy downpours a main threat through the night, elevating the risk for localized flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. A Slight Risk for excessive rainfall is in effect along and west of the Ohio River, with a Marginal Risk covering much of western West Virginia. With unsettled, active weather lingering into Sunday and through much of the upcoming work week, be sure to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings if you are out late tonight. Remember, if encountering flooded roadways, turn around, don't drown!
