KEY MESSAGES

- Hot and dry conditions continue today.

- Diurnal storm chances along with humidity return Sunday and persist through next week.

DISCUSSION

Issued at 1222 PM CDT Sat Sep 19 2026

Latest mid and lower level water vapor imagery shows the dry air still well in place over the area. An upper ridge centered over north-central Texas will continue to bring hot temperatures, however given the drier air, humidities will be again lower similar to Friday. Heat indicies will generally range from around 102-105F. A weak trough approaching from the west will begin to break down the ridge, weakening the capping and allowing for diurnal storm chances to return. These will initially be quite isolated and generally confined to areas along the coast, east of Galveston. Humidity will be a couple degrees higher, though should remain below advisory criteria.

There are no significant changes from next week from the previous forecast. Hot and humid conditions will persist with diurnal isolated storm chances along the coast. A weak cold front late-week may drop temperatures a few degrees and bring less humidity. An upper ridge also looks to strengthen over the same time frame and curtail any storm chances.

AVIATION

(18Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 1222 PM CDT Sat Sep 19 2026

VFR conditions prevail at all TAF sites with light and VRB winds. Winds pick back up and settle out of the ESE tomorrow afternoon. KCXO has a chance for patchy fog early tomorrow morning, which should clear out shortly after sunrise. Precipitation chances remain very minimal tomorrow. KGLS may see a few short lived showers in the morning/early afternoon. Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected thru the TAF period.

MARINE

Issued at 1222 PM CDT Sat Sep 19 2026

Light ESE winds peaking just over 10 kts intermittently will continue through Tuesday. Seas of 2 to 4 ft persist over this period as well. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected each day starting Sunday.
