- Hot and mainly dry conditions will continue again today. Isolated showers and storms possible over far western counties this afternoon and evening.
- Low to medium (20-50%) rain chances return late Sunday into mid next week, with daily highs less hot but more likely staying above normal.
SHORT TERM

Another hot and breezy day across west central Texas. A few isolated showers and storms are possible this afternoon and evening across our far western counties, but most activity will remain to our west across the higher terrain of west Texas. A little better chance of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area on Sunday. The upper ridge will weaken enough to allow a weak shortwave to move overhead. Have kept PoPs mostly in the 20-50% range in the afternoon and evening. The strongest storms will be capable of producing gusty downburst winds along locally heavy rainfall.
LONG TERM
(Sunday night through next Saturday) Issued at 128 PM CDT Sat Sep 19 2026
The ridge will weaken over our area for the beginning of next week. This will allow a weak frontal boundary to drag into the area on Monday and Tuesday. Some weak shortwaves aloft combined with the surface boundary will allow isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop. Have kept PoPs generally below 50% given the uncertainty in overall coverage. But we could some locally heavy rainfall with the stronger storms particularly on Monday. The ridge looks to expand westward into our area for the middle to later part of the week which would result in mainly dry conditions with temperatures creeping back up into the mid 90s. Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be a little cooler given more cloud cover and lower upper level heights.

VFR conditions and light winds will continue through the next 24 hours. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible this evening across the Trans-Pecos region and Permian Basin, but should remain west of the TAF sites.
