Hazy Skies but Relief from the Heat

Created by the NWS Kansas City/Pleasant Hill WFO

Smoke from wildfires in the Pacific northwest will linger across the area for a few days, but cooler and drier expected over the next several days. Storm chances return later this week.

The forecast indicates that hazy skies from Pacific Northwest wildfire smoke will linger for a few days. Cooler and less humid conditions are arriving, with high temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Shower and thunderstorm chances return late Wednesday into Friday, primarily in western/northwestern Missouri and eastern/northeastern Kansas late Wednesday into Thursday before overspreading the entire area Thursday night into Friday. While the risk for severe storms is low, there is potential for training storms and flooding. To the right of the text is a table of forecast high and low temperatures through the next 7 days showing highs in the mid 80s to low 90s today. Wednesday through Friday highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s with morning lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Next weekend temperatures trend back up with highs approaching 90 again on Saturday and in the low-to-mid 90s starting Sunday through Tuesday.
