The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for... West Central Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico... Northwestern Sandoval County in north central New Mexico...
* Until 645 PM MDT.
* At 349 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Counselor.
This includes Highway 550 between Mile Markers 80 and 107.
What to Do
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

Tips to Stay Safe
A Flash Flood Warning means that dangerous flooding is expected or already happening. Flash flooding can develop in hours or minutes, so take protective action now.
- If you are in a low-lying or flood prone area, move to higher ground immediately.
- Stay off bridges over fast-moving water, and away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
- Never walk, swim, or drive through flood waters or flooded roads.
- If you are trapped in a building, move to the highest floor and call 911. Go to the roof only if necessary.
- If your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water is rising inside the vehicle, move to the roof and signal for help.

At 448 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 14 miles west of Heron Lake State Park, or 18 miles southwest of Dulce, moving north at 15 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 45 mph, heavy rain, and penny size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Hail may accumulate on roadways causing hazardous travel.
Locations impacted include... Dulce.
This includes Highway 64 between Mile Markers 105 and 127.
What to Do
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
