...The upper level low over the region will shift to the east just enough to allow for monsoonal moisture to move into the region. Instability will accompany the moisture and allow for increased chances of thunderstorms across central Oregon and the eastern mountains. Isolated dry thunderstorms could spark new wildfires and gusty outflow winds can affect fires already on the landscape...

The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM to 11 PM PDT Wednesday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

Affected Area

Areas in southern Oregon along and east of the Cascades and along the western foothills and slopes of the Cascades, including Fire Weather Zones 617...622...623...624 and 625.

Thunderstorms

Moving roughly north to northeast around 20 mph. Storm mode will be mostly wet thunderstorms, but dry lightning strikes can occur outside of wet cores.

Outflow Winds

Isolated gusts up to 45 mph.

Wildfire Smoke Impacts

Wildfires in northwest Jackson County and in central Oregon will continue to bring smoke and decreased air quality to portions of southwest Oregon and Northern California through at least Wednesday afternoon. Smoke is mainly expected in northern Jackson County. Periods of smoke are also possible in the rest of Jackson, eastern Douglas, Klamath, Lake and at times, into Josephine, Siskiyou and Modoc counties. Monitor air quality conditions at fire.airnow.gov and avoid going outdoors during periods of lowered air quality.
