South Texas Hazards

Created by the NWS Corpus Christi WFO

We are currently in transition season between summer and winter. We have already seen some fog and coastal flooding but it's a good time to review what seasonal hazards to generally expect and prepare accordingly.

A seasonal hazard timeline chart titled "South Texas Hazard Seasons" by NWS Corpus Christi. Months from January through December run along the bottom, highlighting the month of November in yellow. Horizontal colored bars indicate hazard peak periods: Winter spans December to mid-February; Fog spans mid-October to early June; Gale and Marine Wind span mid-October to mid-May; Sea Fog spans mid-November to mid-April; Severe Thunderstorm/Tornado peaks late March to early June; Tropical season spans mid-June to mid-October; Heat spans mid-May to early September; and Coastal Flood spans April to May and September to November. A note reads: "Less than 10% chance hazards may occur outside of these ranges." Bottom text caption states: "Early November: We are transitioning from summer into winter weather season. Ensure you are prepared for cold fronts, fog and marine hazards associated with colder weather, stronger winds and sea fog."
